Special Olympics (SO) Malta is joining Europe in holding a week of football with the participation of members with intellectual disabilities.
Football is a common and universal language to unite people from all walks of life without discrimination of any kind. FIFA and UEFA are giving the support to SO.
SO is the world’s largest sports programme for people with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competition for more than three million in 170 countries. Football is one of the major sports.
Malta is holding a unified football tournament, together with four football nurseries from Valletta, Qormi, Mosta and B’Kara and is being supported by the Malta Football Association.
The first activity is being held next Sunday, 4 May. At 10 am at the Infetti Ground, B’Kara will meet Mosta in the first semi-final. On the same day at 12 noon, at the Qormi Ground, Valletta and Qormi will meet in the second semi-final.
It has been arranged with the MFA that the final match will take place on Friday, 16 May at Ta’ Qali Stadium before the BOV Premier League match between Valletta and Marsaxlokk. A pubic collection will be held on that day and proceeds will go in aid of SO Malta.
