This match was deferred from Thursday, 10 April, when the lights failed at the end of the opening session, with St. James in the lead.

The remaining three sessions were played this weekend, as the match became the last one in the Plate Pool series, already won by Sliema Wanderers. St. James and Kerygma had fallen by the wayside, after starting this Pool on equal points with Sliema.

St. James tarted the second quarter well, extending their lead to a 19-6 score, with Annabel Busuttil points. Kerygma recovered in similar fashion, and they were good enough to post a strong 12-2 run, with a Josette Calleja trey, going within reach of their opponents.

The Saints replied through free throws, and opened up their advantage once more. At the interval they held a 27-21 lead.

After the break the Saints continued where they left off, and an opening 8-2 run gave them more breathing space. When Kerygma rallied back they were hit by a Sammy Jo Barbara trey, and they couldn’t get any nearer. After three sessions St. James were still enjoying a 42-31 advantage.

In the final quarter the Saints had Diane Cassar to push their lead upwards again, but Kerygma replied likewise, with three consecutive hoops.

They also had Lara Cauchi sinking in a trey, but towards the end of the match Denise Hollier profited from some slack Kerygma defence , to put in the game’s last three baskets, and a comfortable last win for the Saints.
