The Marsa C.C finally broke their losing streak of three games by beating returning team Royal Horse Artillery from the United Kingdom. Two out of three games have been played and the third game of the series was played yesterday.

On Friday the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bat first, something which has been rare for the team.

An unlikely opening pair of Justin Brooke and Gordon Hewitt put the home side in a commanding position with Hewitt being the first to go when the score was on 76. Brooke went on to top score with 69 runs. Mike Caruana scored 41 runs and Adnal scored 25 runs.

Alan Kyle remained unbeaten on 63 runs and Dave Judd made ten runs not out. The home side totalled 270 runs from the allotted overs. The visitors gave away 44 extras which did not help their cause. Five bowlers, B. Daniels, J. Gibson, L. Turrell, P. Kerins and A. Graham all took a wicket each.

Having to chase such a total the visitors tried hard to make the quick runs. In doing so they lost to many quick wickets. L. Turrell top scored for the visitors with 26 runs, while A. Heggie and P. Gibson both scored twelve runs. The home team bowlers bowled well with Kevin Krushna and Tony Slater both taking two wickets. They were both outdone by Wally Glynn who mesmerized the batsmen taking four wickets. Marsa won the first game by 170 runs.

On Saturday Marsa again won the toss and elected to bat. Another solid start, this time by John Grima and Sarfraz Ali. The first wicket falling at 81 runs. Ali scoring 43 runs and Grima 32 runs. Ronnie Sacco top scored with a patient 53 runs and Tim Edwards scored 33 runs.

For the visitors P. Webster, J. Gibson and A. Megar all took two wickets.

A better batting display by the Royal Horse Artillery had them almost winning the game. A.Heggie scoring a brilliant 63 runs not out including five fours, L.Turrell scoring 32 runs, P. Webster scoring 29 runs, D.Daniels 27 runs and R.Proctor 22 runs.

The tourists ended up ten runs short of their target giving the home team a two to nil lead in the series. For the home team Gordon Hewitt was the main wicket taker with three wickets.

Next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Marsa take on returning touring team Pretenders C.C.

The Friday game being a 20-20 game starting at 5pm while the other two games will have 10.30am starts.

On Saturday the nursery/academy will be from 9.30 till 11.30am.
