In the only Premier League this afternoon (5pm start), newly crowned champions Valletta will be seeking to maintain their impressive undefeated run of 20 matches when they meet fourth placed Sliema Wanderers.
The champions will have to play without star striker Frank Temile who was suspended after being sent off in the match against Floriana last week.
With nothing at stake now for the citizens who have reached their target, they can play with a certain amount of tranquillity, even if one expects them to try and keep their impressive run.
However, it is not going to be easy as their opponents, Sliema, have dramatically revived their disastrous season by winning their last two matches and are now within a whisker of second place – if they win their last two matches, today against Valletta and then against ‘Old Firm” rivals Floriana.
It is definitely a tall order for the Blues as they cannot miss and one also expects them to go all out to win the three points this afternoon.
The Wanderers are fully aware that they can only save their season by earning a berth in the UEFA Cup if they finish second or possibly third in the League. One must not forget that they have been eliminated from the FA Trophy.
