Today and tomorrow, the Freeway surf stores and the Malta Skateboarding Association are organising, for the first time ever, the Luzzu Cup. This will be the first major skateboarding event in the recently launched Skate Park in Msida.

A team of six pro-skaters from the DC Shoes European Skate Collective have been brought over specifically for this event.

The team includes Jody Smith (UK), Sean Smith (UK), Anthony Lopez (FR), Georges Agonkouin (FR), Ruben Garcia (ES) and Adrian Morales (ES). The brand DC stands for Danny and Collin who are two professional skateboarders who decided to put their experience in their chosen sport into custom designing a range of footwear specifically for skateboarding.

In February 2005, Ruben Garcia was appointed as the DC European Skate Team Manager. Since then, the European team has grown from strength to strength, culminating with Tacky Skateboard Magazine’s claiming, “DC European team as the best team in Europe” off the back of this assault on the European Skate scene.

Today there will be a free skate session for all skateboarders and tomorrow is the day of the competition, featuring three categories: Beginners, Advanced and best trick. All local skateboarders are invited to participate and have an opportunity to win fantastic prizes.

Tomorrow, sign up starts at 11.30am and the competitions will be held in the afternoon, followed by a prize giving ceremony.
