Mtarfa-Qrendi 0-6

In the opening stages Qrendi went very close through Henry Jones and Josef Mansueto and then a Joe Mercieca volley finished just wide of the far post.

Qrendi kept pushing forward and they managed to open a 2-0 lead through two goals scored by Joseph Farrugia and Joseph Mercieca in the 14th and 17th minute respectively.

Then Mercieca missed a clear goal scoring opportunity and in the closing stages of the first-half Alex Abdilla and Joe Farrugia hit just wide with low shots. However in added time Qrendi got a third goal with Joseph Farrugia beating Muscat with an angled low shot.

Five minutes after the restart Qrendi made it 4-0 through Jesmond Azzopardi with Mtarfa creating a dangerous opportunity through Girgio Cumbo.

On 63 minutes Mtarfa suffered a fifth goal scored by Qrendi’s midfield player Josef Mansueto with Qrendi wasting a clear goal scoring opportunity through Joseph Farrugia.

They were also close through other attempts by Karl Agius and Richard Galea and in the 92nd minute Jesmond Azzopardi scored a sixth goal for Qrendi in a swift counter-attack.

Fgura-Attard 0-3

Attard dictated the run of play throughout the first 45 minutes and after 13 minutes the Fgura custodian came out of his goal to block a shot by Kurt Zahra.

Fgura created a dangerous opportunity through Lydon Vella as Attard broke the deadlock on 26 minutes through an excellent volley by Kurt Zahra.

Attard made it 2-0 on the half-hour through a Mark Saliba persistent effort with Attard scoring a third goal a minute before the end of the first-half once again through Mark Saliba.

After the change of ends Attard controlled the match in the midfield sector but they still created goal chances through Kurt Zahra and Mark Saliba.

Attard’s keeper Owen Formosa denied Fgura a consolation goal with a fine save off a shot by Vince Testaferrata.

Section B

Kirkop-Gudja 0-1

Kirkop went close after just three minutes through Mark Farrugia and in the 22nd minute a low shot by Benoit Buhagiar was saved by Zammit.

Gudja hit the post through a lob by Terence Vella and the same player was then denied by Mizzi.

Kirkop replied through through Alan Deidun whose lob was saved with difficulty by Zammit with Gudja then having a strong shot by Elvin Gauci which was blocked by Kirkop’s defender Kirsten Buhagiar on the goal line.

Gauci then blasted a shot wide when all alone infront of goal. After the change of ends Kirkop dictated the run of play with Benoit Buhagiar going very close in the 61st minute.

At the other end the Kirkop keeper brought off a difficult save to deny Terence Vella but Gudja managed to score the all important goal on 70 minutes through Steve Buttigieg.

Kirkop were close to obtaining an equalising goal as an attempt by Alan Deidun was blocked on the goal line.

Late in the match Gudja could have increased their lead through dangerous efforts by Terence Vella and Elvin Gauci.

St Lucia-Gozo 1-2

The first-half was a balanced affair with the Gozitans creating the first goal scoring opportunities through Josef Buttigieg and Mark Camilleri.

The Saints responded through Roderick Mangion whose effort was deflected to a corner-kick but on 33 minutes Santa Lucia broke the deadlock as a free-kick taken by Kurt Grima deceived the Gozitan keeper Saliba.

The Saints again went close through Grima with the Gozitans going very close to an equalising goal through Mark Camilleri whose point-blank shot was saved by Carabott.

The Gozitans equalised after just two minutes from the opening of the second-half with Josef Buttigieg crossing from the right flank and Mark Camilleri headed in from close-range.

Then the Saints’ keeper brought off difficult saves to deny Charles Hili and Josef Buttigieg with Santa Lucia responding through a point-blank shot by Kurt Grima. The Gozitans scored te winning goal in the 82nd minute through a low shot by Anthony Portelli.
