Over the weekend the Marsa CC played Pretenders CC from the UK in a three game series.

The first was on Friday evening. It was a 20-20 game in which Marsa won the toss and elected to bat. Frank Spiteri opened the batting and batted through the whole innings and remained 84 runs not out including ten fours and two sixes.

The Marsa side totalled 147 runs from their overs. Duncan Stahl was the main wicket taker with two for the visitors. In reply the Pretenders were bowled out for 119 runs. Gordon Hewitt leading the attack taking five wickets. For the visitors T.Hall top scored with 38 runs.

Marsa went one up in the series.

On Saturday the Pretenders won the toss and elected to bat first. A great innings from Duncan Stahl scoring 85 runs and L.Derrin scoring forty three runs had their team reach a total of 205 runs. For Marsa Faraaz Bhatti shone with the ball taking five wickets.

In reply Marsa’s opening batsmen John Grima played through the innings and remained seventy seven runs not out. Joy Ghoseroy made 36 runs. These efforts were not enough and saw the home team losing by 36 runs. For the tourists Uz Khalid took three wickets. The series was tied at one all.

On Sunday Marsa won the toss and elected to bat. Again Frank Spiteri opened the batting and remained unbeaten scoring 78 runs including seven fours and one six. Ronnie Sacco scored 25 runs. The local side ended with 169 runs from the allotted overs.

For the Pretenders Uz Khalid and Duncan Stahl both took three wickets each.

The Marsa bowlers bowled very tight and managed to keep the visitors from winning. The Pretenders managed 147 runs with Duncan Stahl top scoring with 33 runs. Gordon Hewitt was in the wickets again taking three taking his tally to nine against the Pretenders. Marsa won the series two to one.

The previous Tuesday, Marsa had also wrapped up a whitewash against the Royal Horse Artillery. The visitors batting first made 149 runs with Wally Glynn taking four wickets while Gordon Hewitt and David Judd taking three wickets apiece. Alan Kyle scored 54 runs, John Grima 32 and Justin Brookes 31 runs not out.
