Although gymnastics calls for all the body muscles to function it is also a discipline that enhances body elegance and poise.
The Skolasport gymnastic instructors, Alison Schembri and Julianne Vassallo are making their students conscious that “While developing muscular flexibility, strength and endurance, practicing gymnastics will help keep participants aware of their posture.”
Gymnastics offered by Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport in the Skolasport Programme, is held on Saturday mornings at the Gym Stars in Tarxien.
During these sessions young and mixed gymnasts are randomly split into groups.
The 90-minute sessions customarily start with warm-up and stretching exercises. Each session is subdivided into different work areas with personalised coaching in floor work, beam, bars, vault, trampoline (for girls) and rings (for boys) thus complementing each and every participant’s physical ability and advancement.
The sessions are rounded off with a conditioning session which improves muscular endurance and fitness.
