Mr C Galea (Of cobwebs and milestones – TMID, 17 May), posed some questions regarding my letter of 14 May, and I wish to answer as follows:

I am not one of those voters brought over by the PN to vote in Malta’s election, although given an opportunity I would have gladly come over and voted PN.

If Mr Galea read my letters and understood them, he would have realised that: a) I had, for all intents and purposes, ruled out the possibility of George Abela being elected leader after the motion to include the card carrying members in the election process was defeated; and b) Of the remaining four contestants, I regard Dr Michael Falzon as a moderate which the MLP needs at this time and has had experience in the administration side of the party. Yes, he would have to be bold enough to sack the incompetent team which was behind three consecutive defeats. There is no contradiction, only confusion in Mr Galea’s interpretation (or spin).

I do not have to give Dr Abela advice regarding the sacking and removal of milestones. Had Mr Galea followed closely Dr George Abela ever since he decided to run for leader, he would have heard him state quite clearly, several times, that he would have new teams and new personnel within the administration of the party.

Mintoff’s endorsement is of little consequence. Mr Galea should remember that Mintoff was the idol of many Labourites for decades and to now label him at the venerable age of 92, as a ‘milestone’ is very unkind to say the least, but after all, I am not the least surprised since the former idol was tarred as a ‘traitor’ by his successor, Dr Alfred Sant.
