Gozitans are greedy. I have written them off my book, and would rather go to Sicily for a day’s holiday than in my own country. I will go to Sicily for my day’s break from now on. Is it any wonder Malta is being priced out of tourism?
My woman wanted to treat me to a holiday in Gozo, for a weekend. We have tried to book a flat for two days (one night), in mid-June. We cannot even find one that is not “booked”.
Can you believe that? Some whom we phoned did not even have the decency to check whether their properties were “already booked”. They just turned us down when I told them what we wanted.
The reason is that greedy flat owners do not want to clean up their flat for just one night’s payment. Like Oliver Twist, they want more. But unlike Oliver Twist, they are not in need. They want longer stays.
Good luck to them. I do not wish them harm but they have lost any patronage I may have given them. So have the restaurants we have been visiting over the past few years, with day breaks in Gozo about every month.
I can now start enjoying a day’s outing in Sicily for the cost of two days or less in Gozo.
