PN’s Justification

Malta Independent Saturday, 24 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Lawrence Gonzi has every justification to ditch all the promises he made during the election campaign, as he is doing. And the Labour Opposition has no right to remind him of those promises and expect him to dish out the lolly.

But the Nationalist Party, which was so bereft of ideas and seems so tired that for a campaign slogan it could only copy Nicolas Sarkozy’s, seems to be in sleep mode and not aware of the justification it can trumpet.

That justification is the campaign slogan itself. “Flimkien kollox possibbli”, I think it was. Or words conveying that meaning.

The crux is “flimkien” (together), of course.

For we are not flimkien at all. More people voted against the Nationalist Party than for. The electorate rejected the PN programme. So Dr Gonzi can sleep contentedly at night, and forget about his promises.
