Attard-Gzira 0-0

(after extra-time; Attard qualify 4-3 on penalties)

In the opening stages, Gzira created two dangerous goal scoring opportunities through Aldrin Muscat and captain Keith Bonello.

Attard’s reply produced a Firas free-kick with Camilleri saving with difficulty and on eight minutes an Attard defender cleared the ball off the goal line to stop an angled shot by Justin Felice.

Gradually Attard shared the exchanges as they went close in the 21st minute through a Mark Tabone rising shot which was well saved by Camilleri and the Gzira keeper was again on hand in the 36th minute to stop an attempt by Mark Saliba following a good move between James Anastasi and Firas Aboulezz.

After the change of ends Gzira continued to maintain the upper hand in the midfield sector with Gaetano Farrugia, Aldrin Muscat and Justin Felice going very close to opening the score.

Attard’s striker shot just wide in a swift counter-attack and in the closing stages Gzira had a shot by Justin Felice and a header by Keith Bonello which just missed the target.

During the first period of extra-time Gzira went close through Andre Buttigieg and Justin Felice but after the change of ends Attard could have won the match.

In the 113rd minute the crossbar stopped a shot by Firas and from the rebound a shot by Mark Saliba was well saved by Camilleri. In the closing stages Camilleri again denied Attard with an excellent save off a point-blank shot by Mark Tabone.

It was still a goalless draw after 120 minutes with Attard making it through to the Final as they scored four penalties (through Mark Saliba, Andrew Agius, Fabian Cutajar and Firas Aboulezz) against the three scored by Gzira United (through Neil zarb Cousin, James Tabone and Aldrin Muscat).

Referee: Sammy Attard.

Mgarr-Xghajra T 1-0

(after extra-time)

The first-half was very balanced with both sets of defenders completely dominating the proceedings.

Although Mgarr dictated the run of play they were never dangerous infront of goal with Mgarr creating the best opportunity as a cross by Jovil Abela was headed on by Brian Magro and the Mgarr keeper did well to deflect the ball to a corner-kick. Five minutes into the second period Xghajra’s midfield player Jonathan Cachia headed at goal with Ellul saving with difficulty.

Then they were again very close through Jonathan Cachia on two occasions and seven minutes from time a Jesmond Azzopardi free-kick finished just wide. Three minutes into added time Xghajra could have grabbed the winning goal but Jovil Abela’s shot was cleared off the goal line by Neil Busuttil.

During extra-time Mgarr were the better team and in the 110th minute they gained a penalty as Chris Abela was fouled by Anton Muscat. Chris Abela converted from the spot. Three minutes from time Xghajra’s defender Martin Portelli was involved in an incident and was sent off.

Referee: Pierre Bonnici
