Asking Too much?

Malta Independent Sunday, 25 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

From Mr J. M. Vella

The other day I went to our family house that is up for sale. Inside I found a note that the meter reader had called and found no one at home.

I called the number on the note (885169030), as I wanted to point out that the water supply had been disconnected but not the electricity. I did what was requested for the service to be discontinued on 15 July 2007, namely: (1) filled an application form; (2) provided a death certificate of the occupant; (3) gave them a photocopy of my I.D. card; (4) a copy of my last payment of the bill. But still no one came to disconnect the service.

However, I did not send them a photo of the façade, as I do not have a camera, do not know whom to ask, and at my age it is not easy.

I was told to call 2557100 and, after getting through, I was advised to call Customer Care on 22980227 who in turn put me through to someone more senior (name is available on request).

He told me I had to take a photo of the front of the property. I said I was over 70 years old and had no one to take that photo, let alone take it to Marsa.

The sympathetic response to this was that the person I was speaking to hung up.

Question: Am I the customer? If so, all I want is to “stop the service” because on my pension more bills that I do not need is too much.

Joseph M. Vella
