After winning their fourth FA Trophy in the last 10 years, Birkirkara chairman Victor Zammit yesterday revealed that, in all probability, the club will be confirming the three foreigners for the next season.

Central defenders Emil Yanchev and Ronni Hartvig as well as striker Davy Amed Sylla had an outstanding season for the Stripes.

Zammit told The Malta Independent that he was surprised with his own team this season. “We never expected anything having changed most of last year’s line-up. However, credit must go to coach John Buttigieg for his mix of experience and youth in building this year’s edition. It should have been a year of transition for us, but the fact that we managed to win Malta’s second major honour in football, makes it one of the most satisfying seasons since I took over the reins of the club,” said the Stripes chairman.

Asked whether the Stripes intend to continue strengthening the side during the summer, Zammit said: “We will certainly try to bring some more new faces to enlarge our squad. We need some flank players and at least one other midfielder. We will certainly be on the lookout to see what becomes available on the market. But we must also give credit to our young players who have given us such sterling service this season.”
