Football: Valletta FC’s Monesterolo May move to Cyprus

Malta Independent Monday, 26 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Valletta FC striker Sebastian Monesterolo is reported to be moving to football in Cyprus.

The local website maltafootball.com yesterday said that AEK Larnaca were interested in signing him.

It added that the Argentine striker was expected to go to Cyprus to finalise the details of the deal.

The local website quoted a foreign website, aekition.com, as saying that there was already an agreement reached on a two-year contract.

Monesterolo had a quiet start to the season and was on the verge of being transferred by Valletta during the January transfer window, but from December he was back in form and finished top scorer of this year’s Bank of Valletta Premier League with 19 goals.

Meanwhile, it is also reliably understood that Valletta will be releasing German midfielder Heiner Backhaus despite being one of their mainstays in the midfield sector.
