Attard-Mgarr U 0-1

After just a few second Mgarr were close through Chris Abela with Attard responding through Fabian Cutajar whose free-kick finished just high over the bar.

Then Attard’s promising striker Mark Saliba twice went close with shots which finished just wide as Mgarr replied in the 21st minute through an Alex Portelli free-kick which was saved by Owen Formosa.

Seconds later Mgarr were very unlucky as a shot by Chris Abela hit the crossbar and in the 27th minute a good move between Chris Abela and Neil Busuttil ended with a conclusion by Matthew Muscat which ended just high over the bar.

In the 39th minute the Attard keeper did well to save an insidious Neil Busuttil free-kick and on 51 minutes the crossbar stopped a crosshot by Carl Attard.

Then Matthew Muscat hit high over the bar from the edge of the penalty area with Attard twice going close trough James Anastasi and Fabian Cutajar.

In the 64th minute Mgarr appeared to have taken the lead but a shot by Chris Abela hit the post and seven minutes later the Attard keeper did well to save a shot by Abela.

Mgarr’s pressure paid off in the 74th minute as they scored through Matthew Muscat from a cross by Carl Attard.

In the 80th minute James Borg shot just high over the bar from the edge of the penalty area with Attard almost grabbing the equalising goal in the 85th minute through Fabian Cutajar’s angled shot which went just wide off the far post.

This result means that Mgarr United have retained their Second Division status.
