Between tomorrow and Sunday, the Lorenzo Gafa’ Boys’ Secondary School in Vittoriosa will be organising the ninth edition of the 51 Hour Pool Marathon.
The aim of this marathon is to raise funds in aid of the Dar San Guzepp in ¯abbar, an organisation that takes care of children in need.
Fourteen students from the same school will be taking part in this marathon. They will compete against each other in a one hour match on a round robin basis.
The best students will qualify for the final stages of the competition that will come to an end, with the final match, on Sunday 1 June at 11am.
The aim of the competition is just to keep the participants motivated during the three days of the marathon, especially the difficult night hours.
The 14 participants for this year’s event were chosen after a qualifying tournament held at school between January and April.
The last stage of this qualifying tournament took place in Baystreet at the beginning of May. This year’s marathon will have a special start as his Excellency the President, Dr. Edward Fenech Adami, will be present for the opening on Friday.
Several dignitaries, among them leaders of the three main political parties and members of parliament, have also been invited and, as they did in previous editions, they are expected to pay a visit to this year’s marathon.
The Marathon was first held in 1999.
The aim has always been that of helping different local philanthropic organisations thus enhancing the sense of altruism in the students of our school
