Modern art museum in Paceville, a letter penned by the admirable Karl Consiglio has simply captivated my attention in the countless possibilities his proposal holds by converting an abandoned wreck in Malta’s foremost entertainment district (of which are as obelisks to today’s deteriorating culture), so as to fuel the creative and constructive capacities of our nation’s progressive sphere in the adequate landing for such a form of art.

Having said this, I am not in any way dismissing the fact that exhibitions of such art are already taking place and becoming common in our developing island. St James’ Centre for Arts and Creativity would thus be acclaimed as being on the forefront of such actions, holding a number of exhibitions per year, most of which are held in a more contemporary setting. I think however, that this proposal for a museum of modern art in Paceville would accommodate two further pros, apart from the list of sundry advantages Mr Consiglio claimed it would offer.

Playing in the trend of walk-in-theatres, in which the theatre is not a location where the audience view and the actors act, but rather that the outside and entrance to the theatre function in such a way as to immerse the audience within the thematic elements of the art by placing the theatre in a background of the art’s own likelihood. In such a way I may continue to argue that the nightlife sparkle and dazzle of Paceville may adequately set a background to art that is more rogue and abstract in flavour.

Given the youth influence that is unerringly present, I also propose for more mainstream art such as those in popular culture to be exhibited. Art upon the styles of animè, graffiti art, graphical design and iconography may prove to pull the youth that frequent Paceville, including myself, towards broadening our perspectives. This is thus the second advantage of such a proposal – I do not by this claim that the youth of our nation will convert to studious drones overnight. I do however claim that varying the sole intention of a locality such as Paceville may prove to attract various other crowds, all of which bring alternative thinking and influence upon the people who already frequent it.

This is why I aptly acclaim Karl Consiglio’s innovative thinking and second his proposal.

I thus address the minister responsible for culture and the mayor responsible for Paceville to consider this proposal as one which could reap fruit in the years to come.
