It is the fifth year the Powerboat P1, Malta Grand Prix of the Sea comes to Malta. The unique Valletta Grand Harbour , once again, provides the spot for this year’s edition of the event, the coming weekend.
This is the third event for this championship, the previous two being held in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy and Marseille, France.
This year’s championship consists of seven championship offshore races held between May and October. Twenty teams compete in the two classes, SuperSport and Evolution, over Sprint and Endurance courses that have been designed to bring the action close to the spectators.
This year the Valletta Grand Harbour will be set up to accommodate an event packed weekend. This includes entertainment for children and adults, competitions and of course the chance to get close to the boats by visiting the exhibition area.
Another attraction is the Ferraris that will be displayed in the exhibition area, on Saturday from 7pm onwards and on Sunday from 11.30am thanks to the Ferrari Club of Malta. The models on display, around 20 in total, range from 208, 208’s, 308, 348, 355’s, 360 Modena, F430 and Maranello, the entrance for this is free.
The entertainment includes face painters, stilt walkers, juggling shows, puppet show, merry-go-round, bouncing castle on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The evening entertainment on Saturday starts from 6pm with the Podium presentation to winners, followed by the Spiteri Lucas Band, with singers Olivia Lewis, Ludwig Galea, Aldo Busuttil and Leontine.
On Sunday morning, the entertainment commences at 10.30 am with the Versatile Brass Band and J.Anvil, followed by the singers Morena, Klinsman, Fabrizio Faniello, Claudia Faniello, Mike Spiteri and Chiara. Sunday evening the band Fakawi will take the stage after the podium presentation at 6pm.
Throughout the days the presence of Bay Radio presenters Abel and Elinor, Ian Lang, Captian Drew, Clayton J and others will continue to provide the right vibe to ensure every visitor is having fun. The exhibition and events area is open to the public, free of charge.
Anyone attendingthe event can bring to the urn, the ticket that is reaching everyone’s home this week via the Magazine You’ve Got Mail. A page in this magazine includes the event programme and an area that needs to be cut out, filled in with the right answers and details and brought to the event area and placed in the urn. Participating in this competition means that one gets a chance to win rides in an Apache Powerboat or Thundercat, GO Multiplus + Sports packages, Powerboat P1 Merchandising and other prizes.
Another attraction is the Miniature Radio Control Powerboat Models, in the pool set up, especially for them. Anyone can actually experience their control abilities by trying out these boats at the event.
For those who enjoy an evening of partying, Saturday 7 June is Powerboat P1 party night. The line-up includes Clayton J, Kristina Casolani and the Waterfall Dancers, Malcolm B, Miss Roberta, Renzo Spiteri and Toby. Tickets are available for sale at MFCC Ta’ Qali for 10 euros or at the door, VGT Valletta, on the night of the event.
