Valletta FC are expected to strengthen the side considerably during the summer as they intend to do well in the Champions League qualifying round.

Rumours around the city clan said that three Marsaxlokk players – Cleaven Frendo, Jamie Pace and Kevin Sammut – have been made prime targets by club president Victor Sciriha.

The president who, the past season, led the side to its 19th Malta title in his first year at the helm, is now eager to add a considerable number of players to the squad to make it even more competitive.

However, he will also have to find substitutes for goalkeeper Andrew Hogg and strikers Sebastian Monesterolo and Frank Temile, as well as midfielder Heiner Backhaus.

Sciriha is aware that Hogg may probably be playing abroad next season as will Monesterolo and probably also Temile. Backhaus’ contract has not been extended.

It is known that former Liverpool star Patrik Berger of the Czech Republic, is also a target for the citizens, but this still has to be confirmed although rumours have it that negotiations are in an advanced stage.

Sciriha at present is thought to be working hard to signing some foreigners whose level will be above that of normal Maltese top players.
