While watching part of the programme Dissett on PBS Television last Tuesday, which was about Malta’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, it was revealed that this year’s participation cost was e209,700 (Lm90,000).

When are we going to realise that we are throwing taxpayers’ money down the drain, and have we not noticed that neighbouring countries vote for each other and we are being ignored?

That amount of money could have easily been invested in a viable and sustainable project or donated to charitable institutions which depend on donations as most of them operate on a voluntary basis.

I hope that one fine day common sense will prevail and we stop squandering more thousands of euros.
