Malta PBS has packaged a half-hour weekly programme for viewing in Australia (and possibly elsewhere) for quite a while now. Every Sunday morning I habitually boil the kettle and enjoy a cup of tea in the hope of catching up on some news from Malta.

I have come to the conclusion that I must be a slow learner indeed, as every time I perform this ritual I am bitterly disappointed. The quality and content is absolutely disgraceful. Often inane and always trivial, the stories depicted are presented in the most unimaginative manner possible.

I have no option but to comment by writing this in the hope that it might rise to the top of the “letters to the editor” pile and one of the producers at PBS might read this and start hunting for some inspiring stories for us antipodeans.

As published in other Maltese papers, the internet should facilitate the viewing of news from Malta without much fuss. My question to the culture vultures in Gwardamangia is, “Why don’t you want to use this half-hour to kill two birds with one stone by informing Maltese speakers of what is current and inviting others to the island home?”
