In your editorial Silent transformation (TMID, 4 June), you write that the Nationalist Party is changing to face the next election with a group of fresh faces in the administration, after having made a reshuffle at government level too.

What you fail to point out is that this transformation started four years ago, when Lawrence Gonzi took over from his predecessor Eddie Fenech Adami.

It was then that the PN laid the foundations for another victory. The fact that in spite of being in government for so long, the PN faced the 2008 election with a new leader and a new prime minister gave it an advantage over a party which, in spite of being in opposition, still had a leader that had lost the previous two elections, not to mention the referendum.

The Labour Party should have done what it did last week five years ago, and it would have won the election without any problems at all.

But that’s all water under the bridge now. The Malta Labour Party must look at how the PN administers its own internal matters, and learn a few lessons.

It would not be facing such a difficult time if it understands that changes needed to be done on a regular basis, and without too much fuss.
