So the Malta Labour Party was right after all.
Before the election, the MLP kept insisting that the figures that were being provided by the government with regard to inflation were giving a distorted view of what was actually taking place.
Now we have the real results as published by the European Union – that Malta had one of the highest inflation rates when it comes to food items for the 12 months finishing in April.
The government always boasts about statistics that come from the EU when they are positive for it. But this time it did not say anything because it realised that it had taken the people for a ride in order to obtain the votes it needed to win the election. The people are now suffering the consequences of the wrong decision they made in March. The government has proven, over and over again, that it does not want to control inflation. Or else it is unable to do so. The problem is that it is the people who suffer the most in the circumstances.
It is a real pity that the people did not realise this before they cast their vote on 8 March. I do not pity those who voted Nationalist. I pity those who voted Labour.
