Do we all have “learning difficulties?” Does the earthquake in China mean nothing to us? Malta lies on a fault-line: we’ve had earthquakes here – and will again – yet I read, (TMID, 6 June), that we’re proposing a building at Fort Cambridge, not of 16 storeys (already too high) but an unthinkable 23! This on land where “a huge number of fissures were found and safety measures had to be taken immediately”.

Some disasters are described as “acts of God”; others should correctly be ascribed to “criminal negligence.”
