At Skolasport: Swim With versatility and endurance

Malta Independent Saturday, 14 June 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Skolasport swimming classes, assisted by the Swimming Promotion Unit, organised by Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and sponsored by Kellogg’s, holds the very popular swimming sessions at the National Swimming Pool, Msida. Groups are split up into the novice and swimmers according to age groups and ability.

“Swimming being a non-impact sport is appealing for any age and physique – the strong and less strong … the young and elderly” explained experienced and energetic instructor Isabelle Zarb. “It may be utilised as part of medical treatment, fitness and weight control, or else to gain physical flexibility and strength.”

Swimming sessions for youngsters are planned into two segments which are land work and watermanship skills. Land work concentrates on warm up, stretching and mobility exercises. The watermanship part delves into floating, diving, breathing and gliding. Intermediate swimmers work on the aforementioned skills including more advanced drills and strokes whilst developing endurance and versatility.

Participants attending Skolasport’s swimming training sessions have substantially increased over the years. This is mainly because Skolasport has offered a good quality coaching system together with top facilities and equipment, and highly qualified instructors.

Kellogg’s sponsors Skolasport and its initiatives to implement its philosophy and encourage young people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.
