The Irish have failed to see the bigger picture, preferring to vote against a treaty out of pure selfishness, in the same way that the people of France and The Netherlands did three years ago when the European Constitution was being debated.

Do the Irish want to be part of Europe or not? Should the EU continue to have to deal with such issues, and waste time to renegotiate treaties just because one of the 17 countries says so?

Perhaps the EU should look into the matter deeply and give countries who always oppose the option to leave the union. Or else, certain treaties should be implemented even if there is one country that rejects them.

Why should one million people stop a process that involves 495 million others?
