James Bonello Ghio, took top spot in the ‘Hi-Tec’ National Squash League rankings in convincing fashion.

Currently in superb form, James Bonello Ghio and Steve Rizzo went into the final match unbeaten and knowing that a win would give either of them the first division title. James went on to win after dominating the final game with a series of impeccably executed drops and boasts.

James follows his impressive run in the recent Malta Open Squash championships by toping the ‘Hi-Tec’ National rankings. Chris Stahl took third place ahead of Martin Mallia who found Chris’s crafty game of volley drops and boasts just too much to cope with.

Division two saw Nigel Dunkerley and Robert Sultana power back to the first division. Dunkerley and Sultana showed why they have been included in the short list of the men’s national team by overcoming the rest of the division with relative ease. Wirth and Schembri took the third and fourth place and retained their status as second division players.

The third division surprisingly saw Patrick Muscat and Malcolm Naudi take the top two spots ahead of Adrian Camilleri. Meanwhile George Goodall managed to survive the drop by taking the fourth spot ahead of Domingo Lang and Alex Scerri who had both shown remarkable improvement over recent months.

Massimo Angilleri was simply unstoppable in the fourth taking the top spot with relative ease. Mark Wright follows him up to the third division beating Charles Cuschieri in the second place decider.

Meanwhile Michael Busuttil took the final remaining spot, condemning Joe Falzon and Melchior Vassallo to the fifth division.

James Cilia won the fifth division although losing 3-1 to Cecilia Farrugia. Cecilia has shown remarkable progress over the last few months and her regular participation in squash tournaments is undoubtedly showing in the results obtained. Matthew Montebello and John Cuschieri drop to sixth.

Liz Said thoroughly dominated the sixth division, showing that her form has come back with avengence. Liz did not drop a single match and is joined in the fifth by David Tabone who himself beat the rest of the division in convincing style.

Meanwhile another lady, Sandra Schembri Wismayer took the seventh division title in a keenly contested group. Matthew Micallef won all his games, but played one less, losing important points for the seventh division title.
