Change In name

Malta Independent Friday, 20 June 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

I fail to see what is different between the Lisbon treaty and the previous EU constitution that was rejected by the French and the Dutch, except maybe a change in name.

I also cannot see how this treaty gave us, a small country more power within the EU.

Mr Paul Saliba (TMID, 18 June) is basically saying that whatever Brussels decides, all EU member states should accept. I thought that the EU was a democratic body. Mr Saliba is advocating a dictatorship.

I look at the Irish vote quite differently.

I look at the Irish as having the guts to stand up and be counted unlike this servile nation of ours that accepts everything that is thrown at it.

Yes I do agree that we are in the EU, but I also believe that it is only us as a nation who will look after our interests, and no one else.
