During the last seasonal sports festival organised by the Kunsil Malti ghall-iSport (KMS), at the Gozo Stadium, the KMS presented aid to various sports clubs in Gozo. The sports festival was, as usual, organised with the collaboration of the Gozo Football Association and held in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport, Mr Clyde Puli, in the presence of KMS officials Bertie Muscat, acting chairman, CEO Joe Cassar and co-ordinator for Gozo Joe Bajada and officials from the GFA, Gozo Youth FA and a number of coaches from Skola Sport of the KMS together with representatives from a all Gozitan nurseries.

The clubs that received the aid were those that participated in the activities organised regularly during the season by the KMS.

These were the Gozo Football Association, the Gozo Youth FA and the affiliated nurseries together with the Sports Complex of the Sacred Heart Seminary. The latter provided their facilities to the KMS whenever these were needed to organise certain activities. The aid was distributed according to an order of merit based on attendance.

KMS’s initiative confirms its commitment to organise more activities in Gozo and attract more youngsters for physical education that will lead them to practise a type of sport. This objective may only be achieved through the improvement of sports facilities, training and equipment.

During the presentation by Mr Puli, the Parliamentary Secretary had an opportunity to chat with the young participants.

The official ceremony took place at the headquarters of the GFA. Gozo’s KMS co-ordinator Joe Bajada. who gave details of the activities organised by the KMS, consisting of sports festivals and other activities, since it started operating in Gozo 18 months ago.

Through these activities, the KMS is not only implementing its legal obligation stipulated in the law of the sports which holds the council responsible for all the sports in Malta and Gozo, but is generating more interest in physical education.

Bajada expressed appreciation for the support given by the GFA, who understood the concept put forward by KMS and accepted an agreement so that these programmes may be implemented.

Other festivals by the KMS in Gozo were organised at schools with the collaboration of Local Councils, which included these activities as part of the programmes commemorating the Day of the Locality.

GFA general secretary Alvin Grech also delivered a short message where he thanked KMS on behalf of everyone for the help that was being distributed. Mr Puli said he was convinced that the participation in sports and physical exercise will increase in Gozo through the various programmes organised by the KMS together with Gozitan associations and clubs.

He said that during the past months the KMS worked hard to see an improvement in the level of sports in Gozo.

He thanked all those who contributed to make these sports programmes a success.
