Your editorial Political seasons, (TMID, 24 June), showers praise on new Malta Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat for his approach during the press conference he gave on the government’s first 100 days in office.

Dr Muscat has shown, in spite of his “political immaturity” tag attributed to him by many, that he knows what he is doing. And it is true that he will bring about a change of mentality in the way we do politics, so much needed in this country of ours.

The fact that, as you said, he was able to distinguish between the good and the bad decisions, and mention both, already puts him in a different category.

However, I would like to humbly suggest something to Dr Muscat. He is too patronising and too preacher-like in the way he speaks, and this could irritate many.

He must realise that the people need to be spoken to, not spoken down to. This is a mistake that Dr Muscat must avoid in the future. But then, one cannot expect him to be perfect as from day one. I believe that in the years to come Dr Muscat will prove himself to be the right choice the party made – for itself and for the country.
