I’m writing in connection with the “limbo” situation of the Equity Sharing Scheme.

Many Maltese engaged/married couples are waiting to know what will happen to this scheme. Is it going to be renewed? Or was this a gimmick rolled out at election time?

This is having a knock-on effect on the property market, as couples do not want to buy until they have the “green light” from the Housing Authority.

If there is no intention of renewing this scheme please let us know. We’ll be in a much better position knowing what to do. As a married couple we’re losing money each month by paying rent and waiting for the scheme to become operational.

Therefore, at this point, the scheme is working against us rather than in our favour.
