In your leader Replacing Joe Saliba (TMID, 27 June), you described at length what a party secretary general should be.

While making a reference to the Nationalist Party election of a new secretary general, doing this on the same day that the PN chose between Paul Borg Olivier and Charlo Bonnici, you were obviously also hinting at what the Malta Labour Party should be looking for when they elect their new secretary general in August.

The qualities of a secretary general of a political party should be the same in all parties, obviously with a difference in ideology.

Your last line says it all. You wrote: “a secretary general is someone who can make or break a political party”. Wise words indeed.

Let us hope that the Malta Labour Party delegates who will be voting to elect the new secretary general in August know the meaning of this.
