This photograph demonstrates the pitiful state in which the bring-in site close to the parking area next to San Gwann parish church is almost every day. The council received this photograph together with a complaint pointing out the poor state of this prominent area.
One can see people coming in and out of church or hurrying around on their morning errands in this very busy area. I as mayor of this locality on various occasions contacted the responsible contractor to empty these bins on a regular daily basis, but all in vain. Do we have to bother to separate our waste when we get this shameful occurrence?
Surely the public is constantly being told, as the sticker on one of the large bins clearly states, that no one is to leave any material around when the bins are full. I fully agree with this, but why not make better arrangements with whoever empties these bins to empty them on a regular daily basis? Not once or twice a week.
Besides, WasteServ should bear in mind that no matter how much it spends on publicity like leaflets and other educational material to teach the public how to cooperate, nothing serves better than a good example. A good example is the best sermon.
