The government does not seem to be doing much to offer better alternatives to the people with regard to the provision of energy.

Few, if any, incentives have been offered in the past years to encourage people to invest in solar energy. Instead, some time ago we heard that a study was going to be carried out on the feasibility of wind energy. But months have passed since and we have not heard anything about these studies, if ever they were carried out.

I understand that it is not the government’s fault that the price of fossil fuel has gone up. But on the other hand, I cannot believe that nobody saw this coming. The price of crude oil has been going up for the past two years, and with all the crisis that there is together with the weakening of the dollar, this was bound to happen.

Before the election, the government did not say much about this problem, even though it was already there. Instead, it chose to freeze the surcharge at 50 per cent for six months so as not to make it an election issue.

The people have been taken for a ride.
