Tendentious Editorial on AN’S future

Malta Independent Saturday, 12 July 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Your leader (TMID, 9 July), at least that part concerning what you perceive to be Azzjoni Nazzjonali’s future, is both tendentious and superficial.

It is tendentious as it falsely conveys the impression that Azzjoni Nazzjonali is a one-issue party. You appear to have overlooked the fact that in its 10-month existence to date, AN has issued an electoral manifesto covering matters ranging from fiscal and economic policy to EU-related policy to social and infrastructural policy among other matters.

You also appear to have forgotten the numerous press conferences AN held on social, economic, international and moral questions.

Your editorial analysis is also superficial in that you make sweeping generalisations such as that stating that there will never be a better chance to elect MPs to Parliament than that offered last March, or the other unsubstantiated allegation that AN is perceived as a pressure group.

Furthermore your “advice” to a fledgling political formation – presumably well meant – to consider its political future illustrates rash and hasty editorial judgement.

Much to the chagrin of the “independent” media editors, Azzjoni Nazzjonali can only build on the electoral result it achieved, and is here to stay.
