The nonsensical issue that emerged over the closing down of vital road arteries at Msida are regrettably showing a stark weakness in decision making on the part of the competent political authority.

It is evidently clear that the people, for a variety of reasons, do not want these major road arteries closed. If there is someone who thinks otherwise, then he should go and play the trombone and not make utterances in public unbecoming of a social club that should set an exemplary tone particularly when in the offing is the celebration of St Joseph, a carpenter who shied publicity and noise! What base Catholicism is this?

My good friend Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici cannot surely be indecisive on such a clear matter: he cannot make his opinion known then relegate the matter to a simple Police administrative decision, which it is not. At stake is the fury of the people who for years have borne with sufferance this dastardly inconvenience caused by a few hotheads. Is our country run by the president of a band club or what?

The decision is crystal clear: the major road arteries must stay open in the supreme interests of the people, foremost among them those needing services at Mater Dei Hospital.
