I was surprised by the new monument proposed by the Mosta local council (Il-Kunsill Tieghek, July 2008) to replace the current Lion statue in Mosta square.

Wasn’t this lion statue a contentious issue 10 years ago when it was going to be removed without consultation? I bet that most locals are against its removal, like they were 10 years ago.

According to the author Mr Galea, the new monument is going to be dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Why not place the new statue in the church where it belongs?

The Lion statue should be restored and a small fountain built around it.
