Local councils have their shortcomings because they are composed of the stuff of humanity. Nevertheless, there are those that try hard to improve their locality. The Marsascala local council is one of them. However, it is continually being stymied by two things: one, it keeps on being blamed for things that are not under its control, and two, it finds very little help from the central authorities when it points out local shortcomings.

A case in point is the sorry state of St Anthony Street, the area close to the bus terminus. This is not under the local council’s control. Both the residents and the few visitors that come to Marsascala have complained about this street where people have actually been injured when trying to pass through it. The Prime Minister, who strangely enough lives in Marsascala and finds time for the occasional stroll, knows very well the truth of our assertions.

Unfortunately, the central government still chooses to ignore all this and refuses to upgrade what once was a pleasant summer resort and a popular tourist zone. That is where people need to direct their complaints.
