I was disappointed to read a paragraph on Medjugorje in the Religion page that was not correct (TMIS, 20 July).

Bishop Gemma’s reports have been totally squashed recently by the eminent Rev. Fr Rene’ Laurentin, one of the leading Mariologists in the Catholic Church who is held in very high esteem by one and all. How could Medjugorje be a deception and the work of the devil if so much good is being done there? Could the devil be possibly working against his own self? Highly unlikely! After having been to Medjugorje for more than 12 times and after having met and spoken with five of the six alleged visionaries, I humbly feel that what is happening there is far from being a hoax. Many books on Medjugorje have been written so far and one of the best, in my humble opinion, is by the well-known Italian journalist Antonio Socci. It is entitled Mistero Medjugorje and gives a good objective perspective of the whole phenomenon that is being investigated by the Vatican and was so dear to the great late John Paul 11.

Obviously, I will always abide by the final decision of the Church once it issues its verdict on these alleged Marian apparitions.
