On 7 June my wife and I and our two grandchildren, aged 15 and 13, were ready to board our flight from Los Angeles to Heathrow airport to connect to flight KM101 to Malta.
While waiting at the gate ready to board the flight at Los Angeles airport one of our grandchildren fell ill and we ended up missing our flight so we flew back home to San Francisco.
We tried to make the trip the next day but the flights were booked full so we ended up cancelling the whole trip. We contacted Air Malta customer care hoping we could get credit for the tickets under the circumstances but they noted that since we did not show up for the flight we were considered as “no shows” for KM101 on 8 June, and being that we had non refundable e-tickets we could not get a refund.
We asked if we could at least get reimbursed the tax and some of the service charges on the tickets since we didn’t use them, but up to this day Air Malta Customer Care has not yet responded and I doubt if they will. I don’t think we should pay tax and full service charges on tickets we did not use, unless Air Malta is taking advantage of the situation.
