Politicians must and have to be honest about their beliefs and basic facts they need to communicate to the electorate. Lacking these two political ingredients, any politician will lose credibility. Once lost, that credibility will not be regained.

Most of our politicians, as with many another politicians worldwide, have long lost this credibility – you witness this in their body language, their eye battling, their leg shifting, their arm movements, their unconvincing communication: “above all be true to yourself” is a maxim long-forgotten and put aside by such politicians.

The people, however, the electorate, often proceed like herds and stick with the labelled flock for otherwise they would not know what to do, how to act and to decide! It is convenient for them to be led, not to think, to shirk responsibility, and let the chosen elite decide for them.

It is thus heartening to perceive that a new dawn might be coming to Maltese Politics following 44 years of political stalemate and abuse of power where each side accused the other side and itself did more of the same and worse!

It is invigorating to finally be hearing some of our politicians speaking out their minds with clarity about how they feel on certain social issues that a number of us honest citizens were brutally punished for having the sincerity to speak about them publicly. That inquisitional era appears to be slowly being eradicated from our social infrastructure.

Now the time for harvesting is fast approaching – the seeds which were sown years ago, with so many of them trampled upon, are now sprouting and about to produce fruit, though vigilance is of the essence as the enemy is watching, well-aware that time is up for its malicious schemes.

Let the people see light and support those politicians who have decided to be honest from Day 1 in their careers by projecting their thoughts and beliefs in no uncertain manner, irrespective of the vote manipulators, uncaring for the hidden threats that there might be, but determined to build a liberal democratic, social state that we will be proud to call Malta within the European Union.
