From Mr C. Borg
After reading Joseph Gaffarena’s letter about the visions at Medjugore and in Malta, I totally agree that this is pure business (TMIS, 3 August). Not only is it a kind of business, it is totally against the word of God.
Visions are not needed to hear what God wants us to hear. We have the Bible. First of all, the only mediator between man and God is Jesus Christ. In Hebrews 9:15 it is written, “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance”. Therefore, the Bible is clear that we don’t need any mediator other than Jesus. Jesus warned us as well, so we can’t say that we don’t know that these visions are not from God. Mark 13:21-23, “And then if anyone says to you, ‘ Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘ Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. False christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand.”
We are told in this verse that we are not to believe, it is Jesus’ command. In 2 Corinthians 11:14, “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” This is a strong verse that one has to think about. We must let the word of God guide us, not some men who want to deceive us.
Also the Bible warns us and we must obey if we truly love God. Ephesians 5:6, “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.”
