A Touch of mystery

Malta Independent Saturday, 16 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Just like Pandora’s box waiting to be opened, the TV programme Pandora is a mystery waiting to be unravelled every time. Drawing on a world of mysterious happenings, phenomena and curiosities, presenter Ruth Frendo (right) who co-produces Pandora with Charlo C Bonnici, finds plenty of intriguing material to delve into. She has become a popular face behind the screen thanks to several other productions namely Mona Lisa, Lilliput and an earlier edition of Pandora. The most recent Broadcasting Authority survey has determined that Pandora has been the most-watched programme during its time-slot within the 2007/2008 schedule, and it stands to reason that with such a successfully proven track record, One TV has chosen to continue featuring Pandora in its forthcoming schedule of programmes.

“I have purposely chosen to create Pandora as a programme that incorporates documentary evidence but not only. It was important to include one to one interviews which provide a personalised in-depth testimony revolving around each programme’s topic. Even this time round, whether the subject is ghosts, UFOs or spontaneous body combustion, the programme will host a guest ready to contribute to the topic in question. I feel this is important to help substantiate certain “mystery” topics which might, at first glance, seem far-fetched. But in reality it is surprising just how many people out there have experienced “strange” things in their life. My guests are people who are well-known to the public, such as singers, TV personalities and writers.”

Pandora proves that in reality our world is a mysterious place which still holds several perplexing events and happenings that are a boon to scientists and researchers seeking the truth behind them. However no conclusions are handed out – each complex topic is introduced to the viewers and expanded in a half-hour slot that allows for a fulfilling smattering of information that will possibly titillate curiosities and further discussion.

“I am a very curious person and am constantly fascinated by subjects such as the paranormal, drawing on the experiences of various individuals to understand more. Through these programmes I am trying to share whatever I discover with the viewers who are probably as curious as myself. At least that is how it seems to me from the positive reactions I have had so far.”

And so, in between talking to a foreign medium and delving in the mystery of fairies, Ruth will also be dishing out some recipes of white magic which she confirms have been extremely popular throughout the past edition of Pandora. “In today’s cynical and materialistic world, we have forgotten the simple pleasures of nature and the magic of positivity. The white magic spells are just a combination of simple routines coupled by the power of the mind. Thanks to the research I am doing, I am not only delving into ancient Egyptian, Indian, African, Native American, Mediterranean and European habits, but passing on magic charms practiced by extinct civilisations such as that of the ancient Druids. Although I am no Harry Potter and an abracadabra will definitely not open any doors or walls, yet I find it fruitful to be able to share such interesting customs that may help surround us with a touch of magic in our lives.”

Pandora is being screened once again on One TV as from October 2008 every Sunday night. Pandora is a Pro Motion production.
