Noise Pollution

Malta Independent Thursday, 21 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I fully sympathise with Ray Fabri (Noise pollution, TMID, 15 August) and other countless victims who are suffering from noise pollution caused by a minority of irresponsible money grabbers. Noise pollution is one form of violence that negatively affects people’s health in a most serious way as emphasised by World Health Organisation experts.

On 14 August at the Saluting Battery just below the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta a noisy activity was underway and as the hours passed the music got louder. After midnight residents informed the police about the unpleasant situation to take the necessary action.

The organisation responsible for managing the site has to ensure that whoever makes use of the premises will respect the privacy of the entire neighbourhood including the surrounding area.

Although there are local laws to protect us, law enforcement leaves much to be desired.
