Former Olympic and European marathon champion Gelindo Bordin will be visiting Malta on a promotional visit next month.
He will be at the Diadora outlet in Psaila Street, Birkirkara on 15 September between 4 and 6.30pm, where local athletes and coaches will be able to meet him.
Bordin, who was born in Vicenza on 2 April, 1959, won the European Championship in 1986 and 1990, thus becoming the first athlete ever to win a European marathon championship twice.
It was in 1988, in Seoul, that he won the Olympic marathon. A year earlier, he had won the bronze medal at the world championships.
In 1990, he also won the Boston marathon – the first Italian athlete to do so. He therefore became the only athlete to have won both the Boston and the Olympic marathons.
