Howard Hodgson In the midday sun

Malta Independent Sunday, 24 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From Mr A. P. Galea

Howard Hodgson can, Goebbels-like, distort things as much as he wants about countries, cities and towns (TMIS, 17 August), but he cannot be allowed to get away with misreporting my letter (TMIS, 20 July) when it comes to my compatriots.

I wrote that he was wasting space going on about “basket case” Britain as nowadays that country is of marginal interest to post-Independence Maltese generations.

Mr Hodgson mischievously misquoted the above as my having stated that the Maltese were “not being interested in what happened in the rest of the world”.

Hello! Hello! Mr Hodgson, Britain is not the rest of the world. Now that is truly delusional, but then we all know about mad dogs and Englishmen in the midday sun. Perhaps Malta’s summer heat has done his head in.

Finally, that Mr Hodgson should wish it on anyone to “become a victim of knife crime” is most revealing of him. Shameful that such viciousness should have featured in The Malta Independent on Sunday. As it was once famously said of another Howard, there is something of the night about this columnist.
