Mr Joseph Ellul (TMID, 21 August) might be well versed in his specialities but he needs a good brushing up in Maltese linguistics.

He has not yet understood that Maltese is made up of Arabic, Italian/Sicilian and English elements, a lexicographic, morphological and syntactical combination that makes it a most fascinating language to foreign scholars.
