Illegal Immigration

Malta Independent Sunday, 31 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

From Mr J. Horgen

As a frequent visitor to Malta, I appreciated Dr Stafrace’s comment that a limit of 18 months should be imposed on anyone entering the country illegally after which a decision is made re staying or being deported (TMIS, 24 August).

The first step is that two other considerations should be made in this equation:

1. Adopt the dictionary definition of “immigrant”, that is, one who can and will become immersed in the majority language and culture of his adopted country; this means the candidate must be – here perhaps stated for the first time – a European Christian.

2. Maltese are compromising their position on this issue by employing illegals and even granting them citizenship, thus encouraging more boatloads to appear off the coast.
