From Ms A. Van Breemen
We live in Sannat and Friday night was yet again a terrible night for us thanks to La Grotta discotheque. Till 4am or longer, there was that incredible loud beat of music that reached Kercem, Sannat, Xlendi and Munxar. I know because I had family living in those places for weeks and they all complained.
This music really gives me an irregular heartbeat and there is not a room in the house where I can escape this noise, let alone sleep with the windows open. This happens on the three nights of the weekend. I cannot believe that other people don’t hear it, but maybe they do not complain because they have gotten used to it, or maybe think it is normal.
Well, it is not. I think that according to European laws the bass sound is too loud. Not only for people outside but also for the disco’s customers. Those youngsters will have one less problem when they are older – they will sleep well because they will already be deaf.
If it is not the dogs barking all night, which is also anti-social, La Grotta will keep you awake at the weekend. Gozo an ecological island? Don’t make me laugh. Gozo is fast on track to becoming the Marbella of Malta.
Why can the police not measure this sound and put a stop to it? I think I express the feelings of all people in this part of the island for who it is a burden.
I do not know whom to turn to. The authorities all have their answer ready “He has a permit” Oh yes, right, and what about are our rights to get a decent night’s sleep. The answer to that was “close your ears”!
